1-1/2 inch heat shrink tubing protects the largest power cables and industrial conductors including 3/0–4/0 AWG feeds, shore power cable assemblies, and high-current industrial runs. At 38mm expanded diameter, it slides over fully-terminated cable assemblies and large lug connections, shrinking to approximately 13mm recovered diameter. The 3:1 dual-wall adhesive liner creates a watertight seal around large cable entries through bulkheads, conduit fittings, and panel openings. The 10ft short roll format is particularly useful for industrial maintenance and marine electrical work where a single repair may need only 2–3 pieces of this large diameter — the short pack avoids buying a full 20ft roll for a one-time application.

Full industrial dual-wall adhesive spec in a convenient 10ft pack. Same 600V rated, waterproof polyolefin construction as the large bulk rolls.
Sizing over a connector? The Wire Gauge row above is for bare conductor. Heat shrink must be sized to the widest point it passes over, so a crimped butt splice or lug barrel needs a larger tube than the wire alone — a 22–18 AWG splice barrel measures 5–6mm, a 16–14 AWG barrel 7–8mm, and a 12–10 AWG barrel 9–11mm. Measure the barrel, allow about 20% clearance, and confirm the recovered diameter is smaller than the narrowest thing the tube must grip. Use the size calculator.

Good quality and sealing heat shrink
Heat shrink works good. Makes a nice sealed wire connection. Better than pre-cut heat shrink — you can make whatever length you want.
Smart format for repair work
Great for keeping several sizes on hand without the bulk. Same quality as the large rolls — the adhesive seals perfectly every time.

1-1/2 inch (38mm) passes over fully terminated cable assemblies and large lug connections up to roughly 30mm, recovering to about 12.7mm. It is a shore power and main-feed size, used two or three times on a job and then not again for months. That usage pattern makes the interesting question not what a roll costs, but what else the same money could be sitting on your shelf as.
Large-diameter work is rarely predictable. The call-out that needs 1-1/2 inch is about as likely to need 1-1/4 inch or 2 inch, and which one it is depends on a gland or a lug you have not seen yet. Holding one diameter in depth is the worst answer to that: you are fully stocked for one third of the jobs and unable to start the other two thirds.
Three ten-foot packs across three adjacent diameters cost about what one large roll does, take up less shelf space than the roll, and mean the tube you need is present far more often. The measure that matters for a service operation is not cost per foot; it is the proportion of jobs you can finish on the first visit.
The reasoning inverts once a size becomes routine. If 1-1/2 inch is what you fit every week, depth in that one diameter is exactly right and the 20ft roll is materially cheaper per foot. The packs are for the period before you know which size that is — which, at the large end of the range, is most of the time.
| Property | Figure | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Expanded diameter | 38mm (1-1/2") | Passes over terminated assemblies up to about 30mm |
| Recovered diameter | ≈12.7mm | Grips a large cable jacket behind a lug or gland |
| Typical application | 3/0–4/0 feeds, shore power assemblies | Terminations too large for 3/4 inch |
| Pack yield | ≈3–5 large terminations | A complete job at this diameter |
| Adjacent sizes | 1-1/4 inch and 2 inch | Three packs cost about one roll and cover three times the jobs |
| Bulk equivalent | 20 ft roll | Right once this size is routine rather than occasional |
Rotate continuously and work in passes. If one side is tight while the other is still loose, the heat is too concentrated and the joint will carry a wrinkle along the cold seam.
If every job uses 1-1/2 inch, buy the 20ft roll. The breadth argument only holds while the next diameter is genuinely uncertain.
Move to the 2 inch pack. At these diameters clearance disappears faster than the nominal numbers suggest.
A 12.7mm recovered wall will not grip it. Step down to the 1-1/4 inch pack, whose floor is about 10.3mm.
For strain relief and identification indoors, the 1-1/2" 2:1 is the appropriate product and materially cheaper per foot.

Verify the expanded diameter is 20–30% larger than your wire or connector. The tubing must slide freely before heat is applied — if it drags, go one size up.
Cut to length and thread onto the wire or cable before making the splice or crimp. Overlap each terminal or connector end by at least 10mm for a proper seal.
The tubing starts shrinking at 100°C, but the adhesive liner only flows at 120°C — so keep the heat gun moving past the point where it looks shrunk. Start at the center and work outward to push air toward the ends. Adhesive will appear at the tube ends — that is your visual seal indicator.
The tubing should be tight and uniform with adhesive visible at both ends. No gaps, lifting, or cold spots. Pull-test the finished connection to confirm the adhesive bond.
Actual 1-1/2" tube at full expanded diameter (38mm) and after heat recovery. Use this as your fit reference before cutting.
Order a 10ft pack to verify the size fits your connector before committing to a large roll. Test fit, shrink one piece, then buy the bulk roll with confidence.
Keep a set of short rolls on the service van or boat. Enough for any repair job without hauling large rolls — one 10ft roll handles most splices.
For the same cost as one large roll, stock several different sizes in short packs. Covers more connector diameters for the same investment.
Seals individual connections on boat wiring, outdoor electrical, and trailer harnesses. Same waterproof adhesive seal as the large rolls — just 10ft.
Ideal for small-batch cable assembly and prototype builds where a full bulk roll would sit unused. Cost-effective for runs of fewer than 50 connections.
Custom automotive and motorcycle builds often need several sizes in small quantities. Short rolls let you match every connection without leftover material.
