Product Overview
Helixal 2:1 standard heat shrink tubing is built for the electrician, fabricator, and workshop technician who needs reliable insulation at volume. Each roll contains significantly more material than competing products — meaning fewer roll changes, lower per-foot cost, and less waste on the bench.
UL listed materials and a self-extinguishing formulation mean you can specify this product into commercial and industrial installations with confidence. Shrinks cleanly to approximately half its supplied diameter — predictable, repeatable, professional.
Every roll uses UL listed polyolefin material — meeting the certification requirements for electrical and industrial installations in the USA.
Self-extinguishing formulation passes UL 224 flame testing. Will not propagate flame along a wire run — critical for panel wiring and bundled harnesses.
Rated from -55°C to +125°C. Performs in sub-zero cold storage, outdoor enclosures, and warm control panel environments without cracking or softening.
Up to 120 ft per roll on smaller diameters. Engineered for workshops, production lines, and resellers who need large quantities of a single size.
Single-wall construction provides clean, consistent electrical insulation up to 600V. Shrinks to approximately half its supplied diameter for a precise, repeatable fit.
Consistent black finish with no bubbles or wrinkles when applied correctly. Leaves a factory-quality appearance on repairs, harnesses, and new builds.
Also Available
The 2:1 standard is built for insulation and bundling. For marine, automotive, or any connection that needs a permanent waterproof bond, our 3:1 dual wall adhesive-lined tubing is the right choice.

How It Works
No specialist tools. No guesswork. Reliable waterproof connections every time.
Position the tubing over the connection before crimping or soldering. Leave at least 6mm overlap on both sides past the connection point.
Works with connectors, terminals, splices, and bare wire ends.
Use a heat gun at 120°C–175°C. Move evenly along the length side-to-side — avoid holding in one spot. The tubing shrinks quickly and uniformly.
A standard 300W heat gun is sufficient. Never use an open flame.
The adhesive liner melts and flows into every gap around the wire and terminal. On cooling it forms a rigid waterproof bond that won't loosen or crack.
Rated for saltwater submersion and continuous vibration.
For the best adhesive flow on 3:1 dual wall tubing, start heat at the center of the joint and work outward toward each end — this pushes trapped air out and ensures the adhesive fills every gap before setting.

FAQ
2:1 heat shrink tubing is the standard choice for general electrical insulation, wire bundling, color coding, and strain relief. It's used in automotive wiring, panel builds, electronics repair, and anywhere you need clean, professional insulation without needing a waterproof seal.
Choose a size where the expanded (before-shrink) diameter is about 20–30% larger than the wire or component you're covering. For example, for a 5mm diameter wire, use 6–7mm tubing. It will shrink down to about half that diameter, creating a snug fit.
A lighter will work in a pinch but is not recommended — it applies uneven heat and can scorch or burn through the tubing. A heat gun gives you controlled, even shrinkage. For professional results, always use a heat gun.
Fully shrunk tubing will be uniformly tight with no loose or bubbled sections. If you see a slight glossy appearance on the surface, that's normal. Remove the heat source as soon as it looks snug — overheating can cause the tubing to become brittle.
Helixal 2:1 standard tubing uses a flame-retardant polyolefin formulation that meets UL 224 standards. It will not sustain a flame on its own, though it can melt if exposed to prolonged direct flame.
No — a hair dryer does not get hot enough. Hair dryers typically reach 70–140°C, but heat shrink tubing requires at least 90–120°C to start shrinking. A heat gun rated for 300–400°C gives controlled, even heat for reliable results. A butane lighter works in a pinch for single wall tubing but risks uneven heat and scorching.
Heat shrink tubing is a pre-formed tube that slides over a wire or connector before heat is applied — it shrinks uniformly for a clean, professional result. Heat shrink tape is wrapped around the wire like electrical tape and self-fuses under heat. Tubing is the better choice for wire connections and splices because it provides consistent wall thickness, a permanent mechanical grip, and reliable insulation. Tape is used on irregular shapes where a tube cannot be slid into place.
No — Helixal heat shrink tubing is currently available in black only. Black polyolefin is the professional standard because it offers superior UV resistance compared to clear or coloured variants, which can yellow and crack under prolonged sun exposure.
