3:1 Heat Shrink

Fits20–22 AWG2.4mm

3/32 inch heat shrink tubing fits 20–22 AWG wire — the gauge used for thermocouple extension leads, LED strip wiring, marine instrument panel signal cables, and e-bike controller sensor wires. NFPA 70 Table 310.15 rates 22 AWG at 3A and 20 AWG at 5A; at these current levels, fine wire is especially vulnerable to moisture wicking along conductor strands — and single-wall tubing cannot stop capillary action. At 2.4mm expanded diameter, this tube slides freely over 20 and 22 AWG conductors and recovers to approximately 0.8mm after full heat application. The 3:1 adhesive-lined construction is the correct choice: the hot-melt inner liner flows around the wire jacket and creates a capillary-blocking 360° waterproof seal rated for continuous immersion. For dry indoor applications where waterproofing is not required, the 2:1 non-adhesive single-wall is a lower-cost alternative in this size. This size is common in marine instrument panels, trailer lighting junction repairs, and e-bike battery management wiring where 22 AWG signal wire runs through high-humidity environments. The 60ft roll provides approximately 144 standard 5-inch connections.

Sizing over a connector? The Wire Gauge row above is for bare conductor. Heat shrink must be sized to the widest point it passes over, so a crimped butt splice or lug barrel needs a larger tube than the wire alone — a 22–18 AWG splice barrel measures 5–6mm, a 16–14 AWG barrel 7–8mm, and a 12–10 AWG barrel 9–11mm. Measure the barrel, allow about 20% clearance, and confirm the recovered diameter is smaller than the narrowest thing the tube must grip. Use the size calculator.

High quality and amazing value for the price

I'll never buy individual bags of heat shrink tubing again. This is very high quality with a shrink ratio that is truly amazing (all of the tubing from this company is). I wonder if I'll be able to use this entire roll in 10 years!

Good quality and sealing heat shrink

Heat shrink works good. Bought this for work. Makes a nice sealed wire connection. Good quality, better than pre cut heat shrink, you can make whatever length you want.

I LIKE THIS!

I solder, and heat shrink, all of my automotive electrical connections. This is a great product, and I can cut it to any length. The price is great, and the shipping was fast!

Sizing & Application — 3/32 inch, 60ft roll

At 22 AWG the joint does not fail from current. It fails from water in the strands.

3/32 inch (2.4mm) is the smallest diameter in this line, and it is the size where the adhesive liner earns its price for a reason that has nothing to do with amps. NFPA 70 Table 310.15 rates 22 AWG at 3A and 20 AWG at 5A — currents that will never heat a joint. What ends fine-gauge wiring is moisture travelling inside the conductor, and a 0.8mm recovered wall with hot-melt behind it is the only thing here that stops it.

Capillary action is the real failure mode at this gauge

Stranded 22 AWG is a bundle of seven or nineteen filaments with continuous channels running between them. Break the jacket anywhere — a solder joint, a nicked sleeve, a crimped pin — and condensation is drawn into those channels by capillary action and carried well past the visible break. The copper then corrodes from inside the insulation, where no inspection will ever find it.

The symptom is rarely an open circuit. It is a sensor that reads intermittently, a thermocouple that drifts a few degrees, an instrument light that flickers on a cold morning and behaves by noon. Faults like these get chased around a panel for hours precisely because the wire looks perfect from the outside.

A single-wall tube covers the break but leaves both ends open, so the channel is still fed from either side. The hot-melt inner wall in this tubing flows at 120°C, wets the individual strands at the tube ends and closes the path. On fine wire that is the whole difference between a repair that lasts a season and one that lasts the life of the panel.

Heat fine-gauge tubing from a distance and keep the gun moving. A 2.4mm tube reaches recovery temperature far faster than a 1/2 inch one, and scorched polyolefin will not seal.

When 3/32 inch is not the size you want

01 · There is a crimp barrel

A 22–18 AWG insulated butt splice measures 5–6mm across and will not enter a 2.4mm bore. Use 1/4 inch over the splice and keep 3/32 inch for the bare conductor either side of it.

02 · The wire is 16 AWG or heavier

3/32 inch passes over 20 and 22 AWG only. From 16–18 AWG upward, 1/8 inch is the correct starting size — forcing a tube on cold traps air and leaves a void after recovery.

03 · You need a handful of pieces

60 feet is production stock for a shop terminating this gauge daily. For one panel or a single repair, the 10ft short pack holds the same tubing at a fraction of the outlay.

04 · Above 600V

This tubing is rated 600V rms, and we hold no rating above it. On a 1000 Vdc array the conductor itself must already be rated — UL 4703 PV wire or RHW-2/USE-2 — and the dual-wall seals the termination rather than insulating it.

How it shrinks.

01

Measure & Select

Verify the expanded diameter is 20–30% larger than your wire or connector. The tubing must slide freely before heat is applied — if it drags, go one size up.

02

Cut & Thread

Cut to length and thread onto the wire or cable before making the splice or crimp. Overlap each terminal or connector end by at least 10mm for a proper seal.

03

Apply Heat

The tubing starts shrinking at 100°C, but the adhesive liner only flows at 120°C — so keep the heat gun moving past the point where it looks shrunk. Start at the center and work outward to push air toward the ends. Adhesive will appear at the tube ends — that is your visual seal indicator.

04

Inspect

The tubing should be tight and uniform with adhesive visible at both ends. No gaps, lifting, or cold spots. Pull-test the finished connection to confirm the adhesive bond.
