3:1 Heat Shrink

Fits1/0–2/0 AWG16mm

5/8 inch heat shrink tubing fits 1/0 and 2/0 AWG cable — used for marine battery banks, LiFePO4 system main cables, large car audio power feeds, and RV inverter wiring. ABYC E-11 Table XI rates 1/0 AWG at 125A and 2/0 AWG at 150A in a bundled marine installation; cables at these ratings are the highest-value conductors in a vessel or vehicle, and electrolytic corrosion at a lug crimp in this size represents a serious failure risk under load. At 16mm expanded diameter, this tube slides freely over 1/0 and 2/0 AWG conductors and recovers to approximately 5.3mm after full heat application. The 3:1 adhesive-lined construction is essential at this current level — the inner liner locks to the cable jacket and lug shank to prevent electrolytic corrosion at high-current crimp terminations exposed to bilge moisture or engine-bay heat cycles. For indoor dry-area panel wiring where waterproofing is not required, the 2:1 standard is a lower-cost option in this size. The 5/8" size is the standard for main positive and negative cable terminations on marine battery banks, LiFePO4 systems, and dual-battery setups.

Sizing over a connector? The Wire Gauge row above is for bare conductor. Heat shrink must be sized to the widest point it passes over, so a crimped butt splice or lug barrel needs a larger tube than the wire alone — a 22–18 AWG splice barrel measures 5–6mm, a 16–14 AWG barrel 7–8mm, and a 12–10 AWG barrel 9–11mm. Measure the barrel, allow about 20% clearance, and confirm the recovered diameter is smaller than the narrowest thing the tube must grip. Use the size calculator.

High quality and amazing value for the price

I'll never buy individual bags of heat shrink tubing again. This is very high quality with a shrink ratio that is truly amazing (all of the tubing from this company is). I wonder if I'll be able to use this entire roll in 10 years!

Good quality and sealing heat shrink

Heat shrink works good. Bought this for work. Makes a nice sealed wire connection. Good quality, better than pre cut heat shrink, you can make whatever length you want.

I LIKE THIS!

I solder, and heat shrink, all of my automotive electrical connections. This is a great product, and I can cut it to any length. The price is great, and the shipping was fast!

Sizing & Application — 5/8 inch, 30ft roll

Corrosion on a battery bank starts at the lug shoulder. That is the step this size has to fill.

5/8 inch (16mm) clears bare 1/0–2/0 AWG battery cable and the crimped lug barrels used on 4–2 AWG. ABYC E-11 Table XI rates 1/0 AWG at 125A and 2/0 AWG at 150A — inverter feeds, bank interconnects, amplifier mains. Every one of those terminations has the same weak point, and it is not the crimp. It is the step where the lug shoulder meets the cable jacket.

Why a 3:1 tube fills a step that a 2:1 tube bridges

A lug crimped onto 2 AWG presents an abrupt change in diameter. The barrel is wide, the jacket behind it is much narrower, and the transition happens over a few millimetres. A tube has to pass over the wide end cold and then recover onto the narrow end, which means it has to lose more diameter than the step itself.

A 2:1 tube halves. Starting at 16mm it reaches roughly 8mm, and if the jacket is thinner than that the tube simply stops shrinking when it touches the shoulder — it tents across the gap rather than following the profile. The result looks tidy from outside and is hollow underneath, and that hollow is precisely where an electrolyte collects and sits against bare copper.

This tubing recovers to about 5.3mm, roughly a third, and it carries hot-melt adhesive on the inside. The extra recovery pulls the wall down onto the jacket, and the adhesive flows at 120°C to fill whatever geometry the wall cannot reach. That combination — more recovery plus a filler — is the entire argument for dual wall at battery-cable diameters.

Allow 20% clearance over the widest measured point. A tube forced over a palm recovers with a void exactly where corrosion begins.

When 5/8 inch will not do

01 · The lug is on 1/0 or larger

Barrel and palm together commonly exceed 19mm on those, which is past a 16mm bore. Move to 3/4 inch and confirm the recovered 6.4mm still grips your jacket.

02 · You are covering cable only

On a bare 1/0 run with no termination, 5/8 inch is right but often more tube than the job needs. Check whether 1/2 inch clears the jacket first — the smaller tube grips harder.

03 · Bundling in a dry battery room

For identification and abrasion protection where no water reaches, the 5/8" 2:1 on a 90ft roll costs materially less per foot and does that job properly.

04 · Above 600V

We hold 600V rms. On 1000 Vdc and 1500 Vdc runs the conductor must already be rated, and the tubing seals the termination rather than insulating it.

How it shrinks.

01

Measure & Select

Verify the expanded diameter is 20–30% larger than your wire or connector. The tubing must slide freely before heat is applied — if it drags, go one size up.

02

Cut & Thread

Cut to length and thread onto the wire or cable before making the splice or crimp. Overlap each terminal or connector end by at least 10mm for a proper seal.

03

Apply Heat

The tubing starts shrinking at 100°C, but the adhesive liner only flows at 120°C — so keep the heat gun moving past the point where it looks shrunk. Start at the center and work outward to push air toward the ends. Adhesive will appear at the tube ends — that is your visual seal indicator.

04

Inspect

The tubing should be tight and uniform with adhesive visible at both ends. No gaps, lifting, or cold spots. Pull-test the finished connection to confirm the adhesive bond.
